Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Firstly, the Nets don’t do this deal unless they get off to a slow start in 2022-23. This would be a last-ditch effort.
In that event, they’d still need the Lakers to begin the season on an equally wrong foot for this to be viable. On the other hand, if both of those conditions hold, there’s some logic here for Brooklyn.
After all, we know the Nets don’t want to bottom out. That was a consistent theme that emerged from this front office during the Durant trade drama. Since they owe the bulk of their draft capital through to 2027 to the Houston Rockets, we can’t blame them.
With that in mind, the Nets would be throwing a Hail Mary here. If Durant isn’t showing signs of age-related decline, and the Nets are losing in part due to more Irving absences, bringing in two reliable veterans like Conley and Bogdanovic could fix what ails them.
