Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
It has been a long time since the New York Knicks have been associated with respectability. Frankly, they’ve been the butt end of a running joke for some time now.
With that said, don’t underestimate this team’s position. As constructed, the Knicks won’t be a title contender in 2022-23. It’s hard to say with any certainty that they’ll even make the playoffs. On the other hand, they have one of the best asset bases in the entire league. The Knicks are flush with draft capital, young players, and moveable contracts.
In that context, the Knicks may do well to put a quality product on the floor next year. This team already plays in New York – making a playoff run could make them appealing to prospective free agents and disgruntled stars making trade requests alike. Adding Wiggins helps them achieve that goal.
After all, Wiggins had arguably his best season in 2021-22. Long considered a defensive liability, Wiggins was a distinct positive on that end of the floor last season.
