3. Derrick Favors, Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder looked like they would try winning some games this season after landing Chet Holmgren with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Adding him to the lineup alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort is a solid core to build things up around.
However, Holmgren being announced out for the season with a Lisfranc injury likely changed the trajectory of their season. They are likely now looking at another tanking season to get into the Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson sweepstakes.
With that in mind, any veteran on the roster is likely up for grabs when it comes to a trade. After making it through the deadline and offseason, Derrick Favors is a prime trade candidate for contending teams to target.
He is on an expiring contract worth $10.6 million, so matching his salary shouldn’t be too difficult. Still only 31 years old, Derrick Favors is a steady producer in the middle that can control the paint defensively with his rebounding and rim protection. An efficient scorer, he can chip in a few baskets per game as well.

Depth is always key for contending teams, and there are more than a few that could use some more size for their frontcourt. In a pinch, he can still start games and be serviceable as well. Derrick Favors is an excellent emergency option on the roster as he has 42 games of playoff experience already under his belt.
