5. PJ Washington, Charlotte Hornets
There arguably hasn’t been a team that has had a worse offseason than the Charlotte Hornets. Despite increasing their win total by 10 during the 2021-22 campaign over 2020-21, there is not much optimism surrounding the franchise.
James Borrego was fired and the replacement they picked, Kenny Atkinson, had the job for less than a week before deciding to return to the Golden State Warriors as a head assistant. Former Hornets head coach Steve Clifford was named his replacement.
To make matters worse, they will likely be without Miles Bridges. After a breakout season, in which Bridges put himself in a position to land a max contract, he was charged with felony domestic violence and child abuse. His NBA career is now in jeopardy as a result.
Filling that void in the lineup will not be easy, as Bridges was ascending toward All-Star status alongside LaMelo Ball. But, someone will get the chance and it could be PJ Washington, who is set up for a big season.

Washington is eligible for a rookie extension this offseason but could take the same route that Bridges did last year and bet on himself. It would be a smart move as Washington is a major breakout candidate.
He is versatile enough to fill numerous roles on offense as he can step out behind the 3-point line and shoot with confidence.
