Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
A trade that had the Kings receiving the Rockets’ picks wouldn’t have made sense. This group is not rebuilding – they’re focused on making the playoffs in 2022-23.
With that said, there are reasons to be concerned about their ability to do so. Primarily, the fit between Fox and fellow star Domantas Sabonis is questionable. They’re both playmakers who thrive with the ball in their hands and struggle without it.
The combined spacing between these two stars could be an issue. For the Kings, this trade is about fit.
Kyle Lowry’s inclusion here could be seen as a salary-matching measure. From that perspective, the Kings are flipping Fox for Tyler Herro here. On the other hand, Lowry may have struggled in the 2021-22 playoffs, but if he can bounce back next season, he does project as a better fit alongside Sabonis than Fox.
