Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F Doug McDermott, G/F Josh Richardson, C Jakob Poeltl
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick, 2029 First-Round Pick
The Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs are heading in opposite directions. As long as LeBron James is on the roster, Los Angeles will be looking to contend for a title. San Antonio made their intentions clear when they traded Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks for draft picks; they are rebuilding.
That makes them a good trade partner should compensation be agreed upon. The Lakers want to move Russell Westbrook and the Spurs have the cap space to accommodate that. However, they want to be compensated well and the first-round picks are what they are seeking.
Los Angeles hasn’t been willing to part with both just yet, but knowing the clock is ticking on making a move, they could eventually relent. Moving Westbrook would require one pick and another is worth this haul of players.
Doug McDermott is an excellent 3-point shooter, the only caveat is that his contract runs through 2024. That is part of the reason that the Lakers are reportedly not interested in taking back McDermott in a trade.

That is not the case for Josh Richardson or Jakob Poeltl, who are both playing on expiring contracts. Both would be major upgrades on the wing and at the center spot for the purple and gold.
