Phoenix Suns
Phoenix Suns Receive: F/C John Collins, F Maurice Harkless
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Cam Johnson, G Landry Shamet, F/C Dario Saric
The Phoenix Suns were the front runners to land Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets before Deandre Ayton signed an offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers, which the Suns matched. Other than those rumors, there really hasn’t been much going on involving Phoenix.
There have been a few rumors that they could look to shake up the forward position with so many players receiving lucrative extensions. Cam Johnson is next on that list and is the centerpiece of this deal heading back to Atlanta.
He fits the mold of the kind of players that the Hawks are looking to put around Trae Young as a 3-and-D forward. He would thrive playing off of Young and Dejounte Murray as a spot-up shooter.
Landry Shamet provides some insurance in the backcourt as someone that can play both spots alongside either of the team’s All-Star guards. Dario Saric tore his ACL in the 2021 NBA Finals and has not played since. But, when healthy, he provides solid two-way play at both frontcourt spots.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: John Collins, Phoenix Suns & Atlanta Hawks Updates
For the Phoenix Suns, they are adding a versatile player to their frontcourt, something they were missing last season. Collins can play power forward or center, a role that Saric occupied before getting injured. But, he has a much higher ceiling than Saric did.
Maurice Harkless is included mostly to match salary but does provide some insurance on the wing and frontcourt, providing some 3-and-3 production.
