Different NBA trades happen for different reasons. Simply put, they’re not all motivated by the same factors. 

Some NBA trades are born out of desperation. It may be that a star player has requested a trade. In that event, the team moving him is unlikely to receive equal value – after all, the opposing team knows their back is against a wall. 

On the flip side, some trades are born out of convenience. When two NBA teams see a mutually beneficial arrangement, they’re likely to make it. 

This trade falls into the latter category. Neither side is desperate to make it, but either could benefit from doing so.
