In an ideal world, managing an NBA team would have nothing to do with finances. Free from the constraints of budgeting, general managers could truly build the best possible team they were able to imagine.
Of course, we don’t live in the real world. Like it or not, the salary cap exists for a reason. If the NBA didn’t implement it, there would be an undue advantage afforded to the league’s biggest markets and richest teams.
We’re willing to bet the Charlotte Hornets would endorse that message. They play in one of the smallest markets in the NBA, so their revenue stream does not flow as generously as some others.
