Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
Of the three teams involved in this proposal, only the Mavericks have a (barring injury) assured place in the 2022-23 postseason.
Unless Luka Doncic gets hurt, it’s hard to see them missing out. That’s the impact of a transcendent talent like Doncic. As long as he’s on your roster, you’ll be competitive.
With that said, this current Mavericks roster is a bit light in two areas. They’re lacking secondary playmaking/shot creating behind Doncic, and 3-and-D wings. That’s why Harrison Barnes would be a perfect acquisition for them: he ticks both boxes.
Barnes may not be the first player you picture when you think of “playmakers”, but he is capable of creating his own shot against tough defenses. Moreover, he makes life harder on opposing shotmakers.
