Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
In many ways, this trade isn’t about Harrison Barnes. It’s about Keegan Murray.
Granted, leaning hard on rookies isn’t typically an optimal strategy for playoff-hopeful squads. This may be an exceptional case. After all, Murray looked ready to contribute from day one onwards during the NBA’s Summer League.
We know what you’re thinking: who puts stock in Summer League? To be sure, it’s not NBA-level competition. Still, Murray’s scouting report always suggested that he was NBA-ready. He may not be able to match Barnes’ production, but if he’s able to approach it, this is a smart deal for the Kings.
After all, they’re utterly lacking in terms of floor spacing guards. Gordon is one of the league’s best. This deal improves the Kings’ floor balance, and that’s a key component of building a playoff-bound NBA team.
