There are a lot of NBA trade rumors swirling around the New York Knicks right now. Donovan Mitchell is the apple of their eye currently as they continue to negotiate a deal centered around him with the Utah Jazz.
Those talks have been ongoing but hit another impasse on Monday, which led to the Knicks signing RJ Barrett to a reported extension that will be four years and up to $120 million with incentives. That more than likely takes Barrett off the table in trade negotiations, meaning they will have to restart talks around different packages.
Another player that has been involved as an extension in those trade rumors is Julius Randle. If the Knicks can pull off a deal for Mitchell, it is widely assumed that Randle would be on his way out of town shortly after that.
After making his first All-Star team, earning a spot in the All-NBA Second Team and winning the Most Improved Player of the Year award during the 2020-21 season, Randle’s performance came back to Earth this past season. His efficiency waned, but his counting stats of 20.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game were matched by only Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic.
