Mo Bamba To Houston Rockets
Orlando Magic Receive: F David Nwaba, F Kenyon Martin Jr., 2023 1st Round Pick (MIL via HOU)
Houston Rockets Receive: C Mo Bamba
By the time this deal can even legally happen, autumn will be officially underway. Having recently signed Mo Bamba, the Orlando Magic can’t trade him until after October 4th.
Meanwhile, plenty of Rockets fans will balk at this proposal. After all, they already have talented sophomore big man Alperen Sengun – why would they trade for Mo Bamba?
Well, as talented as Sengun is, he’s not a surefire superstar, either. Slow feet and an average wingspan have the potential to hinder his defensive impact.
Furthermore, the Rockets are early in a rebuild. This is the time to experiment. Bamba doesn’t possess Sengun’s prodigious floor vision or array of post moves, but he does two things the Turkish big man presently can’t: space the floor and defend the rim.

Plus, Kenyon Martin Jr. allegedly requested a trade already this summer. Here, the Rockets move a player that doesn’t want to be with them, a veteran reserve, and a likely bottom of the first-round draft pick for an interesting young player.
On the other hand, the Magic may not have much use for Bamba. They seem committed to Wendell Carter Jr. as their starting center of the future, and the returning Jonathan Isaac will likely need minutes there as well.

With this move, the Magic acquire an athletic young wing in Martin Jr. and a first-round pick while also clearing up a logjam in their rotation.
