Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Like many proposals, this one only makes sense for the Utah Jazz if they deal Donovan Mitchell. With that said, this one is unique in that it only makes sense if the Jazz don’t deal Mitchell to New York.
If they do, the Jazz will be targeting young players and draft capital above all else. In other words, they’ll become the perfect team to gamble on Cam Reddish.
For what it’s worth, Reddish’s value is basically all tied to his upside right now. In theory, he’s a 3-and-D wing who offers strong secondary shot creation. In practice, his shot and defense have been so inconsistent that no team has offered him a sizeable offensive role.
The Jazz could be the first. If they’re tanking, allowing Reddish to freelance in their offense could be a win-win. It allows him to explore his game, and it gives them the opportunity to potentially unearth a star.
