Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Myles Turner

NBA observers tend to underrate distantly conveying first-round picks. Perhaps that owes to basic psychology – the year 2029 feels very far away.

It isn’t, especially for a team like the Indiana Pacers. Fans should contextualize these picks within the timeline of the teams acquiring them.

Suppose the Pacers are one of the worst teams in the NBA in 2022-23. If so, they should be on pace to get back to playing competitive basketball by 2026 or 2027, barring a surprising development. By then, these picks will be right around the corner. If that timeline comes to fruition, a win-now Pacers club may be using these picks to acquire veteran talent rather than drafting franchise cornerstones.

As for the Nets, Myles Turner could be a perfect addition to their squad. He should maximize Ben Simmons as a stretch big man. Moreover, he provides the type of rim protection that every contending team looks for.
