Why The Miami Heat Do The Trade
The Miami Heat have made two Eastern Conference Finals in the past three seasons and came one pull-up Butler jumper from their second Finals trip in the same period. They’ve accomplished this behind inspired post-season play from Jimmy Butler and an infamously stingy defense.
There’s been one recurring theme for why the Heat have fallen just short of their ultimate goal in the Butler era: a lack of offensive creation aside around him.
Miami has relied on intelligent off-ball player movement and offensive design to cover up for their lack of top-tier scoring talent. The Heat have been waiting on young prospects Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro to take steps forward in that regard, but it hasn’t paid off yet.
While Herro had the best season of his career so far last season, Miami may need to make some contingency plans in case his development stagnates, he regresses, or he struggles with injuries again.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets & Miami Heat Updates
The Heat could clearly use another elite offensive creator to balance the floor and take pressure off of Butler’s shoulders.
Kyrie Irving happens to be one of the greatest isolation players in the history of the league. His strengths and weaknesses would perfectly align with Miami’s roster, before and after swinging this deal. Adding an engaged Irving would vault the Heat to the top of the Eastern Conference Power Rankings.
