Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

By now, everyone knows the Knicks are linked to Donovan Mitchell. If they acquire him this summer, it would change everything for the organization. 

With that said, this deal works for them whether they’re landing him or not. 

If they are, Crowder is an especially complementary player for him. His low-usage brand of 3-and-D wing is a perfect fit for a ball-dominant scorer. Meanwhile, Shamet’s off-the-bench scoring will be an asset as well. 

On the other hand, it never hurts to acquire a first-round pick. Still, if the Knicks pass on Mitchell, that will be a particularly valuable asset for them here. In all likelihood, they’ll eventually use it to land whichever star they do decide is worth emptying their clip for.
