Making a trade with the Brooklyn Nets is likely the most complicated of the three preferred destinations. The Designated Rookie rule comes into play, as no team can have more than two such players on the roster and only one can be acquired via trade.
The Nets already have one acquired via trade in Ben Simmons. So, to acquire Donovan Mitchell, they have to include him in the deal. There is a chance Utah does not want him on the roster given the fact that he missed the entire 2021-22 season and three seasons remaining on his contract.
If they do not want him, one team that would certainly love to acquire him is the Los Angeles Lakers. They need as much talent as possible and Simmons would be an excellent fit given the fact he has no issues deferring to other players and is an elite defender.
Utah comes away with the kind of draft capital that they have been seeking, receiving two first-round picks from the Lakers in 2027 and 2029.

The Brooklyn Nets are sending their 2023 first-round pick, a 2027 pick via them or the Houston Rockets, as Houston has the right to swap and a pick in 2029. They are also receiving high-upside youngsters in Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe from the Nets.
Brooklyn gets their guy in Mitchell, giving them a new Big 3 after the failed experiment with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. They also receive scoring guard Kendrick Nunn to help match their salary.
