For at least a little while, there won’t be any drama overtaking the Brooklyn Nets. The standoff between NBA superstar Kevin Durant and the franchise came to an end this week, as the two sides agreed to move forward with their partnership.

While there will certainly be some things to smooth out, such as Durant calling for general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash to be fired, getting everyone on the same page was very important. They all share a common goal of winning a championship, but there is still a little more work to be done.

The Nets have a very strong roster around Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, as they should contend for a championship with them healthy and committed. They have a few roster spots still open and should use that to round out the team’s depth.

As shared by Alex Schiffer on The Athletic, the center spot has been a topic of discussion. That could be where they direct their focus when it comes to adding pieces to the roster.

The positive is Durant’s decision to stay in Brooklyn makes the organization a prime destination this late in the game. Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe remain the only two centers on the roster. There have been rumblings of Simmons playing center this season and Durant has done so before in small-ball lineups. Do the Nets add another big man or role with the traditional and modern options they have? Is there a surprise trade of sorts? How Marks uses the momentum and roster flexibility will be worth watching in the coming weeks.

Marks has done a solid job thus far this offseason reshaping the roster, signing T.J. Warren and acquiring Royce O’Neale from the Utah Jazz in a trade. With Patty Mills and Claxton re-signing and Joe Harris and Ben Simmons returning from injury, this could be a dangerous group with the right combinations and late additions.

Bringing in some experienced depth in the frontcourt would make some sense. Nicolas Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe have combined to start 28 games in their careers, so relying on them for major roles could be risky.

Any veteran looking to chase a ring will have the Nets on their short list of teams to sign with. There are still some very solid players available in free agency and if they are only deciding between veteran’s minimum contracts, Brooklyn could have a leg up.
