NBA Superstar Kevin Durant Reveals Truth About Retirement Rumors

The trade saga between NBA superstar Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets had a few more layers added to it in the last week or so. In a meeting between the two sides, Durant reportedly issued an ultimatum to the franchise, saying it was either him or general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash.

That is a peculiar ultimatum to make since Marks is the guy who brought Durant in with Kyrie Irving and made the moves that they asked to be made. One of those moves that Durant and Irving pushed for was hiring Nash as head coach.

Durant no longer believes in the plan those two have put in place and is seeking a change. This standoff could go on for weeks, as a training camp holdout is certainly possible as well.

It has also been floated around that Kevin Durant would be willing to retire before ever suiting up in a Nets uniform again. That is something he actually addressed on his Twitter account Monday. Durant said, “I know most people will believe unnamed sources over me but if it’s anyone out there that’ll listen, I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon. Shit is comical at this point.”

It was hard to imagine a basketball lifer such as Kevin Durant choosing to retire and walk away from the game that he loves so much on a whim. He has plenty left in the tank to offer as he remains one of the best players in the world, he just no longer wishes to continue his career in Brooklyn.

Alas, Durant really has no one to blame but himself. He left a stable situation with the Golden State Warriors to try and win on his own with a player in Irving he handpicked to team up with. All of the decisions since then with the coaching staff and roster have been run by him and things just haven’t worked out.

Until a team steps up with an offer that Nets brass likes, a deal will not be made. Brooklyn has made it clear what they are seeking in a return package for him and has been unwilling to take anything less
