How This Deal Impacts Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are looking to get as much as they can in exchange for Donovan Mitchell. The Rudy Gobert trade has skewed the market, so their asking price is likely a little bit high right now. But, they can still come away with some of what they are seeking.
The New York Knicks present their best opportunity to land draft capital or young players. They are not going to get both; there just isn’t enough demand on the market for the Knicks to push their offer beyond what has been reported.
So, in this scenario, Utah opts to get as much draft capital as possible. The Knicks are including three unprotected first-round picks of their own in addition to protected picks via the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons. Five first-round picks is a solid haul, but it will certainly impact the player return package.
Cam Reddish is the only young player that they are receiving in the deal. He is eligible for an extension this offseason and will have a chance at the extended playing time he has been seeking on the Jazz.
If Utah wants Obi Toppin or Quentin Grimes, it will impact the draft capital being sent to Salt Lake City. Evan Fournier and Julius Randle are both included and can be flipped for more assets down the road.

If they are intent on not taking Randle back, they can push to have Derrick Rose and his essentially expiring contract included with Rudy Gay and not Bojan Bogdanovic going back to New York.
The player package can be adjusted accordingly, but if the focus of the Jazz is on draft capital, as it was in this hypothetical, the Knicks are unlikely to budge when it comes to adding more young players into the deal.
