The Utah Jazz and New York Knicks have each drawn a line in the sand when it comes to negotiations. There has been a lot of smoke about a Donovan Mitchell trade and it would be surprising at this point if one isn’t completed.
In this version of the trade, the Jazz decide to focus on getting draft capital in return. The Knicks can trade up to eight draft picks to Utah, so they settle on five being a fair number since no other team that has been linked to him can top that.
Five is also fair as some can be considered compensation for taking back veterans Evan Fournier and Julius Randle. Salary is needed to match Mitchell, but neither Fournier nor Randle have an expiring deal, which Utah was looking for.
With so many draft picks heading their way, the Knicks also hold onto almost all of their young players on the roster. Cam Reddish is included in the deal as it has been reported the Knicks don’t want to include RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley or Quentin Grimes.

With Randle included, Obi Toppin is held onto as well. New York is also getting Bojan Bogdanovic back as he can replicate what Fournier provided as a floor spacing, scoring-focused wing.
