Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Many will argue that the Nets need to stay competitive with so much draft capital owed to the Houston Rockets. This deal may not help them do so in 2022-23. After all, Jaren Jackson Jr. is slated to miss 4-6 months due to injury.
With that said, it shouldn’t be long until it gets them back in the playoff picture. Once Jackson Jr. is healthy, he’ll be ready to help them win ball games. As one of the league’s best, most versatile defensive bigs, he could be a long-term cornerstone for the Grizzlies as well.
His fit alongside Ben Simmons is intriguing as well. The two could make for the best defensive duo in the NBA, and they’re both young enough to grow together. Furthermore, Jackson Jr.’s ability to space the floor should serve Simmons as well.
At the same time, the Nets get plenty of draft capital here as well. Jackson Jr.’s tendency to get injured makes that a necessity – as talented as he is, it depreciates his value.

With that said, if he can eventually get (and stay) healthy, this could look like a great deal for the Nets in a few short years.
