If you’ve been keeping up, you know that the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz have been heavily rumored to be in negotiations surrounding Donovan Mitchell. Recently, a third team has entered the party.
That team, of course, is the Los Angeles Lakers. After a disaster of a 2021-22 season, the Lakers are in dire need of improvement. With that said, it’s hard to envision a path forward unless they’re willing to part with future first-round picks.
This trade has them doing exactly that. By flipping Westbrook and picks for Julius Randle, they’ll be forming one of the most talented frontcourts in the NBA by teaming Randle with Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Meanwhile, they lighten the load the Knicks have to part with to land Donovan Mitchell in the process.
