Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
Often, when a young team makes the jump from rebuilding to contending, the final step is to acquire a star veteran.
This trade has the Grizzlies taking that step. Pascal Siakam would be the cherry on top of a successful rebuild. The Grizzlies would officially rank among the league’s elite teams.
Furthermore, his fit with this group makes sense in the short and long term. For 2022-23, he at least replaces Jackson Jr. in the rotation. Their skillsets are different: Siakam is a playmaking/scoring wing, whereas Jackson Jr. is a defensive anchor. That’s exactly what makes them a tantalizing fit in the long run.
After all, Siakam is no slouch on the defensive end, and Jackson Jr. is no net negative on offense. The symbiosis between the two is apparent on paper.
