If you were expecting to see Jaylen Brown in the Los Angeles Lakers’ return, we don’t blame you:
Frankly, we almost included them in it.
Ultimately, we thought better of it. In terms of name recognition, a Davis-for-Brown swap feels intuitive. On the other hand, Davis’ performance over the last couple of seasons does not merit such an exchange.
Sure, the Lakers could attach draft capital to facilitate a deal. That still probably won’t fly with Boston. After all, the Boston Celtics are fresh off of an NBA Finals appearance – they don’t have a pressing need to trade Brown.
Yes, they included him in Kevin Durant talks, but until he’s able to prove otherwise, Davis is no longer in Durant’s tier.

The Celtics would surely rather keep the 25-year-old Brown than acquire a tremendously injury-prone Davis. In fact, it’s fair to question whether the acquisition of Davis would even be worth the price they’re paying here.
