Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
We already said that this deal borders on unrealistic. With that said, that’s on the LA Clippers’ end: The New Orleans Pelicans would likely accept it in a heartbeat.
That’s not a slight on McCollum or Valanciunas. They’re both strong offensive players who the Pelicans will be happy to roster in 2022-23. With that said, George’s two-way impact far outweighs what either bring to the table.
Simply put, the Pelicans would be getting the best player in this trade. George’s 3-and-D chops will complement anyone, but it would be particularly advantageous in maximizing Zion Williamson’s playmaking. Negating his defensive shortcomings is no small victory either.
