Here’s How Clippers Could Trade For Pacers’ Myles Turner

The LA Clippers look like they could return to the ranks of contenders this upcoming NBA season. The biggest reason for that is health, as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are both looking healthy and ready to play. Leonard missed the entire 2021-22 season, while George played in only 31.

In addition to their two superstars, the Clippers have a deep, talented team that has seen an influx of talent in the last few months. Ahead of the deadline, they acquired Norman Powell and Robert Covington. This offseason they signed John Wall to upgrade their point guard position, making them even deeper.

The only real loss that the Clippers suffered was Isaiah Hartenstein. He signed a two-year contract with the New York Knicks early in free agency for $16 million. That leaves Ivica Zubac as the only true center on the roster, with Covington likely backing him up.

That is something the front office could look to change in the coming weeks as we head toward training camp. One center that could be an intriguing target for the Clippers is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.

Turner has been involved in a ton of trade rumors, as he has seemingly been on the block for years. To land him, the Clippers could have to exhaust virtually all of the remaining draft capital that they have to make a trade.

One possible trade package would be sending Marcus Morris Sr., Brandon Boston, a 2027 first-round pick swap and a 2028 first-round pick to Indiana in exchange for Turner. Morris is signed through 2024, so the Indiana Pacers would want to be compensated for taking on his contract in addition to the cost of acquiring Turner himself.

This deal would leave the Clippers without a first-round pick to trade until 2030, and those are not eligible to be traded until next offseason. While they would be lacking draft capital, this deal would make them arguably the best team in the NBA.

Los Angeles would be two deep across the board, and three deep at some positions, giving them the kind of depth that is necessary to make it through the marathon regular season. Turner’s skill set would also diversify their center position, as he can stretch things out to the 3-point line on offense and provides elite rim protection defensively.
