Why The LA Clippers Do The Deal

Listen. We’re well aware that the LA Clippers are unlikely to do this. Again, this is a thought experiment: Would the Clippers be better off with CJ McCollum and Jonas Valanciunas?

There is a case to be made. McCollum ran some point for New Orleans last season, with a degree of success. He brings an element facilitating that neither Leonard nor George do to this squad, without sacrificing shot creation.

Meanwhile, Valanciunas gives them the stretch big they currently don’t have. He’s emerged as a borderline offensive star since his three-ball started dropping over the last couple of seasons.

All told, a starting lineup of Valanciunas, Robert Covington, Leonard, Norman Powell, and McCollum would be one of the most balanced and dynamic groups in the NBA.
