As it stands, many of the NBA’s teams are playing a game of wait-and-see. Until (unless?) Kevin Durant gets moved, we may not get many trades.
This deal has the Jazz, Knicks, and Lakers conspiring against that conventional wisdom. Who needs Kevin Durant, anyway?
In fairness, any team hoping to win the NBA title should at least want him. Still, he can only play for one team during the 2022-23 season. In all likelihood, it wouldn’t have been any of these ones anyway.

Of these three teams, the Knicks may have the assets to get in on the Durant sweepstakes. Unfortunately for them, they wouldn’t have enough left on their roster to seriously contend after landing him.
By that logic, acquiring the 25-year-old Donovan Mitchell may be a smarter move for the Knicks organization.
