Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
For what it’s worth, Horton-Tucker is no flawless fit in Miami either. Within their core group of Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro, only Herro is a decidedly positive floor-spacer.
On the other hand, an advantage the Heat do have over the Lakers is depth. That puts them in a better position to take a gamble on Horton-Tucker. If his shooting turns around, they could win this deal by a longshot. If it doesn’t, they’ll simply bury him on the bench.
Kendrick Nunn is no mere throw-in here, either. He’ll be reuniting with the Heat, and perhaps just in time. With the 36-year-old Kyle Lowry looking like a shell of himself in the 2021-22 playoffs, the Heat could potentially stand to upgrade their point guard rotation.
This will not be the deal that puts the Heat over the top. With that said, it also improves their longer-term financial flexibility – Robinson has four years remaining on his deal, while Horton-Tucker has two, and Nunn is on an expiring contract.
