One of the most divisive topics of the NBA offseason has been what should the Los Angeles Lakers do with Russell Westbrook. Some of the answers may surprise people, as many believe the Lakers should get rid of him at all costs. However, it is not that simple and a recent piece put together by Eric Pincus over at Bleacher Report proves that.

Opinions ranged on what the Lakers should be looking for and expecting in a trade package in return for Westbrook. Many believe Los Angeles is correct in not putting a second first-round pick on the table, as they aren’t getting needle movers in these deals.

Kyrie Irving has been the biggest name on the rumor mill, but can the Lakers actually trust him? Teaming up with LeBron James again could be enough for him to stay focused on the straight and narrow, but that would be a major risk.

Speaking of Irving, there was one eyebrow-raising suggestion made by an NBA insider. They believe that the Lakers should package Anthony Davis with Westbrook and ship them across the country together.

“Kyrie is the move. They should offer Anthony Davis with Russell Westbrook. Try and get Kevin Durant. KD for AD and a pick is as close as [the Nets] will get to what they want.”

That would certainly send shockwaves through the NBA. If the Lakers were able to come out of this mess with Irving and Kevin Durant, it would be truly shocking. If the Net tandem wants to stick together, this could be the only realistic scenario.

An argument could be made that offers from other teams, such as the Boston Celtics making Jaylen Brown available, would top Davis. However, any trade scenario involving the Celtics won’t include Irving. That could be the key to the proposed idea by the insider, that Brooklyn has a clean break from the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era, sending them both to Los Angeles.

Staying healthy has proven difficult for Davis, who has played in only 76 games the last two seasons. If the Nets are unable to get exactly what they want from the Celtics, or a team such as the Toronto Raptors with Scottie Barnes Jr., they could show some interest in Davis, if that is something Los Angeles would even be willing to do.
