Rather than stashing a prospect on their bench, this move enables them to grab a veteran who should quickly become a Thibodeau darling and another young gun to build around or flip down the line.

Justise Winslow has bounced around the league mostly due to his inability to hit an outside jumper, but his versatile defense and playmaking ability should help him carve out a niche in the Knicks’ rotation. While Keon Johnson has gotten off to a slow start in his early career, he’s an athletic freak who’s already a plus defender which should help plead his case for minutes in New York.

Still only 20 years old and a first-round pick just last year, Johnson could become quite the player with some proper development. He showed encouraging signs in this past Summer League, helping to lead the Trail Blazers to the championship in Las Vegas while averaging 14.5 points and 1.8 steals per game.

As for the Trail Blazers, they’re able to turn two players who likely won’t see much playing time for them into a young prospect at a position of need. Portland has an excess of guards and needs a true 3-and-D wing to run out alongside Damian Lillard and newly acquire Jerami Grant.

If there’s anything that Reddish is great at already, it’s knocking down open triples and guarding on the perimeter. With better shot selection and a change of scenery, he could be the perfect starter to plug alongside Dame, Anfernee Simons, Grant, and Jusuf Nurkic.
