Granted, the rotation is getting crowded following this deal. Between Conley, Brogdon, and Marcus Smart, the Celtics will have three guards worthy of starting minutes. On the flip side, that’ll be true even if this deal isn’t made.

The question, then, is whether the Celtics are better off with White or Conley. For our money, they should go with the latter.

Granted, White is a better point-of-attack defender. With that said, Smart is one of the very best in the league in that area. Conley is a much more reliable floor-spacer and a superior game manager. With no disrespect to White, this is a player who’s made an All-Star appearance. He’ll make Boston better in 2022-23.

As for the Jazz, they’re only taking on White to match salaries. Look for them to flip to another contender as the season wears on. From their perspective, they’re trading Conley for Pritchard and a protected first-rounder.
