Sacramento Kings Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell trade proposals have become entirely fashionable. His departure from Salt Lake City appears imminent. With that said, Sacramento is not the most popular landing spot.
On the one hand, that makes sense. The Kings are rarely tied to star players. That at least partly explains why they haven’t made the playoffs in an NBA-record 16 years. Of course, that’s exactly why the Kings ought to pursue Mitchell.
There’s no reason for this team not to go all-in on 2022-23. In fact, they’ve already made strides in that direction, having dealt Tyrese Haliburton to the Pacers in exchange for Domantas Sabonis at last year’s deadline.
Here, the Kings flip, in essence, Harrison Barnes, Richaun Holmes and a pile of draft capital to land the star guard. They get the Mavericks involved because the Jazz won’t be interested in a veteran of Barnes’ quality. They’ll be looking to bottom out in 2022-23.

On the other hand, the Mavericks will be looking to contend. For that reason, upgrading Bertans to Barnes at the expense of a first-round pick shouldn’t be a problem for them.
