The Brooklyn Nets have been involved in a ton of NBA trade rumors the last few weeks since Kevin Durant requested to be dealt by the team. He isn’t the only player that has been involved in rumors as Kyrie Irving could also be on his way out of town.
While the market for Irving is ice cold, at least half of the league has reached out to them in regard to Durant. The Phoenix Suns have been the team mentioned most prominently, while the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors are also throwing their hat into the ring for him.
Brooklyn is looking for a historic return in exchange for Durant who remains one of the best players in the NBA. Blue chip, All-Star level players or high-upside players on their rookie contract and draft picks are what they are seeking.

For example, the proposal they reportedly sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves included Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and multiple picks.
The Nets do not want to embark on another rebuild, as they are hoping to remain competitive even if they trade Durant. That could be why they reportedly have interest in Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz, another All-Star who could be on the move at some point in the offseason.
“Earlier in the free agency period, several teams monitoring the Mitchell situation saw the Heat as the favorite to land him via trade,” wrote Ian Begley of SportsNet New York. “But Brooklyn has interest in landing Mitchell as well.”
Getting multiple teams involved in trade talks has been something Adrian Wojnarowski has said that the Nets are telling teams to meet their asking price. Could they be hoping that the Utah Jazz gets involved as a third team willing to part with Mitchell?

Mitchell would certainly fit the bill of what Brooklyn is looking for in a package in exchange for Durant as a 25-year-old, three-time All-Star. He also has connections to the market as he grew up in New York and his father works for the New York Mets.
Landing Mitchell as a replacement for Durant and Irving would be a win for a Brooklyn team whose expectations are being altered greatly from where they were just a year.
