Utah Jazz Receive: F Scottie Barnes, F OG Anunoby, F/C Khem Birch
Toronto Raptors Receive: F Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Donovan Mitchell, G/F Gary Trent Jr., 2023 First-Round Pick (TOR), 2024 First-Round Pick (Swap – TOR)

Recent rumors have suggested that the Toronto Raptors would be unwilling to part with Scottie Barnes in order to land Kevin Durant.

On the one hand, that’s understandable. Barnes is fresh off of a Rookie of the Year season. His blend of strength, quickness, defensive intensity, and floor vision make him a potential star in this league. On the other hand, we can’t say for certain the Raptors won’t reconsider.

After all, this is Kevin Durant we’re talking about.

This deal has him headed North of the Border. It doesn’t cost the Raptors an arm and a leg in draft capital either. Taking age into account, Barnes, Anunoby, Trent Jr. and two first-rounders feels like enough to give up for the 33-year-old Durant.

Meanwhile, the Nets recoup their losses by landing a win-now player in Mitchell. His pairing with Ben Simmons (presumably not Kyrie Irving) should keep them competitive in 2022-23.

Finally, we’ve basically already justified Utah’s involvement here: flipping Mitchell for Barnes is good value, especially if Mitchell has requested a trade.
