Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
We already outlined the absolute mess of a situation the Brooklyn Nets are in. This deal gets them a little further out of it.
We neglected to mention that the Nets are currently low on draft capital. The Houston Rockets control their draft, by pick or by pick swap, up to 2027 due to their James Harden trade.
This trade gets the Nets a little draft capital back. They should also be happy to add Dorian Finney-Smith. Considering their current draft situation, the Nets will likely be looking to get back to being competitive as soon as possible. The 29-year-old 3-and-D wing will aid that cause.
Of course, it’s hard to know what the future holds in Brooklyn. They may land a young star in return for Durant, and not skip a beat. Alternatively, the best package they’re offered could be draft-heavy.

They could opt to bottom out and hope some of those Rockets swaps make the best out of a bad situation. In fact, that’s what the Nets will be aiming to do this summer regardless.
