Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
There are a couple of reasons to believe the Dallas Mavericks could be a good fit for Ben Simmons.
The first one is the Mavs’ offseason addition of Christian Wood. Having signed Javale McGee, many expect the Mavericks to start Wood at the 4. In the NBA, sometimes, plans change.
If the Nets were interested in this deal, the Mavericks could pivot and start Wood alongside Maxi Kleber. With that lineup, they’d have the four-out spacing Simmons needs to thrive as a ball-handler.
Of course, the Mavericks are looking for a secondary ball-handler. Luka Doncic will remain the primary playmaker even after the addition of Simmons.

With that in mind, Simmons would have to be willing to function as a roll man in pick-and-roll sets where Doncic has the ball. If he was willing to make that sacrifice, he and Doncic could be one of the best duos in the NBA in 2022-23.
Are the Nets getting enough back to grant the Mavericks the opportunity to roster them?
