Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
If there’s one organization that’s likely to place a higher value on Barrett than draft capital, it may be the Utah Jazz.
After all, they play in one of the smallest markets in the league. As such, they’ve historically avoided long, arduous rebuilding processes. Acquiring players with a track record of production is likely a priority for this club.
None of which is to say that Barrett will keep them as competitive as they’ve been for the last several seasons. He won’t. Still, if he’s able to continue developing his game, and the Jazz land another cornerstone elsewhere, his presence would expedite their rebuilding process.
Furthermore, the Jazz still have several quality veterans on their roster. This deal keeps them flexible. They could tread water as a middling club until they find an organic route to improvement. Alternatively, they could ship out some more of those veterans in exchange for more draft capital.
