Utah Jazz Receive: G Evan Fournier, G/F RJ Barrett, 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
The recent Hawks/Spurs trade raises questions about the market value of first-round picks.
The Spurs received a protected first-rounder, two unprotected ones, and a pick swap in exchange for star guard Dejounte Murray. Often, NBA trades work from precedent. Surely, Donovan Mitchell has more trade value than Murray.
At the same time, the Jazz are receiving Barrett here. Is he worth the opportunity cost of two first-round picks? After all, he’s a former number three pick.
Arguably, he hasn’t quite lived up to that billing. Still, draft picks are high-risk, high-reward acquisitions. Barrett is a proven commodity. The Jazz could opt for a more draft-focused package, but they’d be lucky if any of the players they selected panned out as well as Barrett.

Furthermore, at 22, he’s still got room to improve. Would the Jazz be willing enough to bank on that potential to pull the trigger on this deal?
