Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
This Chicago Bulls’ offense is perfectly healthy. The tandem of DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine looked like a viable long-term partnership on that end.
On the other hand, they need to upgrade their defense. It’s hard to imagine a better way to do so than trading for Gobert.
With this deal, the Bulls set clear inentions. A simple postseason appearance will not satisfy them next year: they’ll be looking to advance a round, if not further.
Gobert’s presence makes that possible. Furthermore, the pieces they’re losing may not be so pivotal given their roster construction. Alex Caruso makes up most of Ball’s point of attack defense. Furthermore, his playmaking isn’t necessary to a group featuring LaVine and DeRozan.
