San Antonio Spurs
It’s not completely unreasonable that the Phoenix Suns are hesitant to commit max money to Deandre Ayton. He’s an impact player, but he is limited.
In essence, Ayton is a rim-running, rim-protecting big man. He doesn’t shoot. He’s not the worst switch big in the league, but he’s not elite in that area either.
After all, legendary coach Gregg Popovich is still at the helm in the Alamo. In case you hadn’t heard, he’s pretty good at developing players. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a better coach for Deandre Ayton to expand his game with.
Furthermore, Ayton’s immense frame and relative mobility ought to remind Pop of a player he coached before. If Popovich sees shades of David Robinson in Ayton’s game, he may pounce at the opportunity to explore his potential with the San Antonio Spurs.
