Phoenix Suns
It’s entirely possible that this is no longer an option. If Deandre Ayton has his heart set on leaving the Phoenix Suns, he may force the issue. Meanwhile, if the organization is certain that he’s not worth max money, he may not need to.
With that said, would stating put really be so bad?
The Phoenix Suns have been wildly successful for the past two seasons. They made an appearance in the NBA Finals in 2020-21 and followed that up with 64 wins in 2021-22. Yes, they fell short in last year’s postseason. Is that really enough to blow up this core?
Perhaps a frank discussion is needed here. If the Phoenix Suns feel Ayton isn’t worth the money as it stands, couldn’t they explain to him what developments they’d like to see to make him worth it? Meanwhile, could this team change if Ayton highlighted exactly why he felt undervalued?
