Making the Case: Minnesota Timberwolves

When a team makes it to the postseason for the first time, it can serve as an effective barometer for what personnel limitations they face before they can be contenders.

For the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of those limitations was D’Angelo Russell. He averaged just 12.0 points on 38.7 percent shooting from the floor and converted at just a 29.3 percent clip from beyond the arc. The results were a bit rough for a player being paid over a lot to be a scorer.

The Timberwolves’ offense begins with Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns and that will only become more so the case as Edwards develops.

Derrick Rose has been an impactful player when he’s been available but has struggled with injuries. Alec Burks has underwhelming trade value amid his recovery from ankle surgery. Neither are signed to lengthy contracts and can be stopgap options.

Nerlens Noel would help the Timberwolves to add an athletic shot blocker to address the need they feel they have in that department. He would be a cheaper option than parting with assets to add a more dynamic option.
