The history between these two organizations would get increasingly complicated following this deal.

After all, the Nets traded James Harden to the 76ers at last year’s trade deadline in exchange for Ben Simmons. This deal finds the Nets trading their disgruntled player to the Sixers.

In return, the Sixers get the 2023 first-round pick they sent Brooklyn in the Harden deal back. That’s compensation for parting with an emerging star in Tyrese Maxey.

For what it’s worth, that’s no small concession from the Sixers. Maxey looked every bit the part of a future All-Star in 2021-22.
