Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Brooklyn Nets may be on the verge of collapse. Along with the tensions with Kyrie Irving, some rumors suggest that Kevin Durant would consider leaving town if Irving isn’t given a long-term contract.
This deal allows them to hedge their bets. No matter what situation they’re in next season, Tyrese Maxey should be a welcomed addition.
If Durant thinks he can team with the talented young guard and a hopefully healthy Ben Simmons and contend, that’s perfect. The trio would provide the Nets with enough top-end talent to justify a win-now mindset in 2022-23.
On the other hand, if Durant wanted out in Irving’s absence, acquiring Maxey is huge for this organization. They’ll suddenly have a head start on a rebuild around the younger Maxey and Simmons duo.
