Chicago Bulls Receive: G Dejounte Murray, C Jakob Poeltl
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G/F Lonzo Ball, F Patrick Williams, 2023 FRP via POR, 2027 FRP
The Chicago Bulls proved in these last playoffs that they desperately need an infusion of defensive talent. Dejounte Murray and Jakob Poeltl would do just that. Murray would also provide the Windy City with their best floor general since Derrick Rose first injured his ACL.
Last season, the Bulls found success in the regular season by deploying Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to wreak havoc on opposing perimeter players, pressuring their ballhandlers and forcing turnovers. This scheme was meant to cover for their lack of an interior presence and advanced defensive IQ across the roster.
With Murray and Poeltl on the roster, the Bulls wouldn’t have to rely on gimmicks anymore. Poeltl’s acquisition instantly turns the Bulls’ center rotation from one of the weakest to possibly the strongest in the league.
Murray’s presence will take playmaking pressure off of DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, allowing the Bulls’ alpha dogs to focus on finishing plays instead of creating them.

The Spurs in this deal snag a pretty hefty package that contains two young players with plenty of potential and two future first-round picks. Depending on how they feel about Patrick Williams, this deal might give them more value than their original asking price of three first-rounders.
