Tyus Jones

Unlike D’Angelo Russell, Tyus Jones wouldn’t need to change his style of play to fit in with Boston. He’d instantly provide them with exactly what they are looking for.

If ball security is the problem, Jones is the answer. Don’t bother looking for a point guard with a better assist-to-turnover ratio. He led the NBA in that category in 2021-22.

By that measure, he’s literally the best player the Celtics could trade for this summer. He’s not as dynamic an offensive player as Russell, but with Tatum and Brown on deck, that may not be relevant to the Celtics.

If they want a player who makes good decisions, spaces the floor, and hustles, Tyus Jones is their guy. He won’t revolutionize their offense, but he won’t hurt them on either side of the floor. Given the success they had in 2021-22, that may be all they should look for in an offseason acquisition.
