3 Realistic NBA Free Agency Targets For Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics, NBA Trade Rumors

The Boston Celtics put together a storybook 20221-22 NBA season. They started with plenty of drama in the offseason, with former Executive Danny Ainge unexpectedly stepping down, former Head Coach Brad Stevens taking his role, and rookie play-caller Ime Udoka coming in to take the reins on the sidelines.

After so much front office turnover, the team got off to a predictably rocky start — sitting with an 18-21 record nearly halfway through the year.

Obviously, the Cs were able to turn their season around, finishing with the second seed in the Eastern Conference and battling their way into the NBA Finals. The path to get there wasn’t easy, though, even after they entered the playoffs with the two seed.

Boston was able to handily defeat the Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving Brooklyn Nets in a sweep, but every single game was played down to the wire.

After that series, the Celtics engaged in pure rock fights with the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat respectively. Both those matchups went to seven games, with the Eastern Conference Finals battle against the Heat virtually decided at the final buzzer.

Throughout the postseason, the Cs were able to overcome their roster deficits — lack of a true point guard, shallow wing depth, etc. — but the Golden State Warriors were eventually able to exploit those weaknesses, along with Boston’s fatigue, enough to win the NBA championship.

Now, newly minted General Manager Brad Stevens will have to find a way to improve a roster that just proved capable of making the Finals.
